. a race this tight, tightening some. any stop that president or mitt romney makes in a local area gets a lot of coverage. draws a lot of people. can be an organizing tool. having to cancel those stops can make an impact on however many were planning to attend. the buzz, they are here, sending competing messages, in terms of earned media as they call it. it's certainly going to make a difference for them. what is being talked about in virginia is largely the storm and not the campaign speeches. it could make a difference. no way to predict which way that cuts. for romney who wants to close that narrowing gap it could be he doesn't get the face time he needs, for obama, he gets to look presidential or the same. he doesn't get the face time he needs. simply no way to predict. we'll have to wait. >> and anne, we'll wait to speak with you later in the show. thank you so much. >> thank you. >>> more on the top story. where hurricane sandy is right now, and how much stronger the storm is growing. are the warnings being taken seriously? live reports from the jersey shore next for you. >>> firs

to be more aggressive. that's what the white house is promising. he's going to be very local here in williamsburg, virginia. perhaps about a two-hour drive. although the president, of course, is going to be flying down there. he's there for three days. he's going to be ensconced behind closed doors. no public events on the president's schedule before he goes to hoff extra university on new york's long island for the debate tuesday night. we've heard the president himself say perhaps he was a little bit too polite in that first debate when the consensus has congealed around the idea that he really got thumped. joe biden as you were discussing earlier picked up a little of the slack. gave the base the red meat they were looking for. and the white house is certainly intimating that the president is going to be more aggressive. but joe biden is joe biden and president obama is president obama. two different types of personalities. two different approaches, two different rhetorical styles. let's see if the base is as happy with president obama on wednesday morning as they were with joe

to spin these numbers? >> gingerly and carefully, alex. because they will want to do this in the local markets where this news is good. but remember, there's still another unemployment report to come out right before the election. so if you start -- if you're obama and you start crowing -- you notice he's not really made a huge deal about the drop in unemployment. because if you crow about it and it bounces back the other way you've got a problem. you've got to be really careful knowing these numbers are very volatile. but sure, any unemployment numbers that are going down that's going to help the president at this point. >> and rachel, the next report that dana is talking about that's friday the second of november. election of course being four days later on tuesday. how much of an impact do you think that number will have? given the way the trajectory has been and rather incremental dips, do you think it will make a big influence on how people vote tuesday? >> it's one more unknown at the very last minute in a razor-thin race. it's unlikely that the new number would change partisans

, he was doing some interviews yesterday. he did a lot of them. and it's going from local market to local market that way. what's he saying? >> reporter: well, alex, a number of things that we've sort of gleaned from these interviews that he did. he is reaching out to young voters, to women voters, to independents. one of his key messages, though, is for folks to get out and vote early. this is what he said to our colorado affiliate yesterday. take a listen. >> i've fought for middle class families in colorado and all across the country. that's the kind of president i think you want. and i'm looking forward to having the privilege to serving another four years. a lot of it's going to depend on colorado, so i hope everybody takes advantage of early vote in colorado. you guys are always ahead of the curve when it comes to voting. >> reporter: alex, of course colorado is a key battle ground state. but that is a key part of the obama campaign strategy, urging people to get out and vote early. so we are here in new hampshire, which is another key battle ground state. president obama w
